Legacy Modernization

Modernize existing systems incrementally – with a structured assessment, target architecture, migration plan and controlled releases, without interrupting operations.

What this means in practice

Modernizing a business-critical legacy system requires new technology, established business logic and ongoing operations to work together.

  1. 01

    Frontend migration

Move server-rendered templates or older JavaScript structures incrementally to a component-based frontend with an appropriate rendering model.

  2. 02

    Architecture modernization

Reshape modules, interfaces and responsibilities so changes become more focused and safer. The system context determines whether a modular monolith or selected services are the better fit.

  3. 03

    Stack upgrades

Update runtimes, frameworks and dependencies without unnecessarily rewriting proven business logic. Clear technical boundaries reduce migration risk.

How I work

The assessment maps dependencies, operational risks and the cost of change. It then prioritizes the areas where modernization provides the greatest business or operational value.

The migration plan defines verifiable milestones. Each step is implemented, tested and validated in operation before the next one begins.

Not every older component is automatically a risk. Stable parts can intentionally remain in place when changing them would not provide sufficient value.

Typical scenarios

  • jQuery, AngularJS or Backbone to React, Vue.js or Angular
  • Monolith to services – where it makes sense
  • Server-rendered templates to a component-based frontend
  • Legacy desktop application to a web-based solution
  • Protect critical areas incrementally with automated tests
