Context
Frontend migration for an international online marketplace for luxury watches. From December 2018 through June 2020, I worked on the incremental modernization of the frontend from jQuery to Vue.js within a live platform serving a large international audience.
Challenge
The frontend had grown over many years and combined server-rendered Java templates with jQuery. New interactive features called for the gradual introduction of a component-based Vue.js architecture.
A complete rebuild was not an option while the marketplace remained in service. For 2020, Chrono24 reported around nine million monthly unique visitors and annual transaction volume of approximately €1.5 billion. Changes therefore had to be incremental and closely coordinated with the teams involved.
The task was to migrate page areas and components step by step without disrupting core user and transaction flows.
Implementation
The migration followed an incremental approach: individual page areas and components moved from jQuery to Vue.js one at a time. New features were built directly in Vue.js while existing pages were migrated gradually.

My contribution
As a Frontend Engineer, I worked on the migration for 1.5 years across several Scrum teams. My focus was developing new Vue.js components and migrating existing page areas built with jQuery.
The work required a detailed understanding of both the legacy code and the target architecture. Migrated components needed to preserve the relevant existing workflows and integrate into the platform incrementally.
Coordination within and across Scrum teams was also an important part of my role. On a platform of this size, many teams work on different areas in parallel, making alignment and shared development standards essential.
